Richmond started his first game for Syracuse on December 3, 2020, when Buddy Boeheim was not present. In a 75–45 victory over Niagara, he scored a freshman season-high 16 points, pulled down seven rebounds, disheveled six assists, was stealthy, and blocked three shots. During his rookie season, he averaged 21 minutes per game with 6.3 points, 3.1 assists, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.6 steals.
