Kate Koval plays as a forward for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and is a freshman in the 2024-2025 season. She hails from Kyiv, Ukraine, and attended Long Island Lutheran High School. She moved to the United States in 2021 to begin her collegiate basketball career. ESPN HoopGurlz ranked Koval as the No. 5 overall recruit and the No. 1 post player in the 2024 class. She scored 18 points with seven rebounds and five blocks in her collegiate debut against Mercyhurst. Kate made multiple double-doubles throughout her freshman season, including 14 points and 16 rebounds against James Madison. Her seven blocks against Lafayette made her the first woman in Notre Dame’s history to achieve such statistics since 2017. In November 2024, she became USBWA National Freshman of the Week and ACC Co-Rookie of the Week. Her early dominance gave her a nomination in the 2024-25 ACC Newcomer Watch List.
Kate Koval had a remarkable high school career at Long Island Lutheran High School and was one of the top prospects in the country by the end of her high school career. Kate earned a selection in the McDonald's All-American team in 2024 and also appeared in the SLAM All-American Team, Jordan Brand Classic, and Nike Hoop Summit. Koval earned numerous offers from some of the top programs but decided to commit to the University of Notre Dame. She was ranked as the No. 1 post player in the 2024 class by ESPN.
