Smith won the Gatorade California State Player of the Year award before her commitment to the University of Southern California. Smith also helped Team USA earn a gold medal at the 2024 FIBA U18 AmeriCup, and she also represented the United States at the USA Nike Hoop Summit. Smith played the McDonald's All-American game and was a 2024 Naismith Award semifinalist. She was ranked the No. 6 recruit in the nation by espnW and Prospects Nation. Smith joined the USC Trojans over other top programs in the nation. Kennedy Smith had a remarkable high school career at Etiwanda High School in Rancho Cucamonga, California. She earned a selection in the All-CIF game thrice and made it to the McDonald's All-American team. Smith averaged 20.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2.1 steals, and 1.8 blocks as a senior, leading Etiwanda to a 30-3 record. She led the team to the 2024 CIF Open Division state title game. She won two state Open Division tournament championships and was the MaxPreps California Player of the Year in 2024. Smith finished her high school career as Etiwanda's all-time leading scorer with 2,122 points.
