Kentucky basketball recruiting: Top 3 players to watch out for in 2024-25 season

The Kentucky Wildcats will be a new-look team in 2024-25. Longtime coach John Calipari left the program to go to Arkansas, and Kentucky went out and hired Mark Pope.

The Wildcats are also set to lose Reed Sheppard, Rob Dillingham and Antonio Reeves to the NBA draft. But Kentucky did do a good job landing some top high school recruits and transfer portal players to fill their spots in 2024.

Top 3 Kentucky basketball recruits to watch out for in 2024-25 season

#3. Travis Perry, G

The lone high school player on this list, Travis Perry, committed to the Wildcats as a four-star recruit out of Lyon County High School in Kentucky.

Perry was the 80th-ranked player nationally and the best high school player in the state of Kentucky. He is the all-time leading scorer in Kentucky high school basketball and averaged 32.2 points as a junior in high school.

Perry can come in and compete for a starting job, but will most likely come off the bench and play important minutes for Mark Pope.

#2. Brandon Garrison, C

Brandon Garrison transferred from Oklahoma State to Kentucky, and he should fill a key role for the Wildcats.

Wake Forest transfer Andrew Carr heaped praise on Garrison in a recent interview when asked about which player is underrated.

“I think I would have to say probably Brandon Garrison,” Carr said, via A Sea of Blue. “He’s been awesome, he’s a younger guy — we’ve been hanging out a whole bunch, just getting to know him. He’s a really special guy, always happy, fun, easy-going.
“I think he’ll be really great on the court. He’s going to be able to expand his game and shoot it a little bit. The physical tools are obviously there for him. I really think he’ll be able to make an impact on this team. He’s flying under the radar right now.”

Last season at Oklahoma State as a freshman, Garrison averaged 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 blocks per game.

#1. Jaxson Robinson, SG

Jaxson Robinson transferred from BYU to Kentucky as he was a four-star recruit coming out of high school and in the transfer portal.

Robinson will likely have a starting job for Kentucky this season as he follows Pope to Kentucky. Last year at BYU, the guard averaged 14.2 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists.

Robinson has also played at Arkansas and enters his final year in college, so he brings some much-needed experience to Kentucky.
