Kevin Kruger, an American college basketball coach, is entering his fourth season as the UNLV Rebels head coach. He served as an assistant head coach with the program before landing the head coaching role in 2021. Kruger was born in McAllen, Texas and is the son of legendary college basketball coach Lon Kruger who coached the Rebels from 2004-2011. He started playing college basketball at Arizona State and moved to UNLV where he played under his father in his senior year.
Kruger went undrafted and played with the Utah Flash and Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA D-League. He also had professional stints in Bulgaria, Italy, China, Mexico, Belgium, and Germany. Kruger launched his coaching career in 2014 as an assistant for two seasons at Northern Arizona before joining his father’s coaching staff at Oklahoma in 2016.
Kruger spent three years with the Sooners before returning to UNLV in 2019 to work under T. J. Otzelberger. He got elevated to the head coaching role in 2021 when Otzelberger moved to Iowa State, thus beginning his first stint as a head coach. Under Kruger, UNLV was invited to the postseason for the first time in 11 years last season.
