Kim Caldwell is an American college basketball coach who is in her first season with the Tennessee Lady Volunteers as a basketball head coach. Before her arrival at Knoxville, she made two head coaching stops at Glenville State and Marshall. In her eight previous seasons as a head coach, Caldwell has never missed the NCAA tournament and made two Division II final fours.
As a player, Caldwell played basketball at her alma mater Glenville State where she led the program to the WVIAC conference championship in 2010-11 as a team captain. She started her coaching journey as an assistant coach at Ohio Valley University and then spent three years at Sacramento State from 2013-16 before landing her first head coaching gig. Caldwell returned to her alma mater as the head coach in 2016 and found success immediately in her first season. She led the Pioneers to six MEC regular season titles, and four MEC Tournament trophies and was also named MEC Coach of the Year four times in her seven-year stint with Glenville State.
However, after seven seasons, Caldwell accepted the head coaching position at Marshall in 2023. In her lone season at Marshall, she led the program to their first NCAA tournament appearance since 1997. Caldwell led Marshall to a 26-7 overall record and was honored with the Maggie Dixon Award in 2024. After just one season with Marshall, Caldwell was announced as the new head coach of the Tennessee Lady Volunteers following the conclusion of the 2023-24 regular season.
