Kuzma initially attended high school in the Swartz Creek Community School district but soon after transferred to Bentley High School which also is part of the Bentley Community Schools. Kuzma soon came in touch with Vin Sparacio. Vin was the head coach at Rise-Star Academy in Philadelphia. Seeing the needed potential in Kuzma he encouraged him to join the Rise Academy, As a High School senior, Kuzma demonstrated the best of his abilities, averaging seven rebounds and 22 points per game with efficient shooting.

Committing to the University of Utah

Over offers from Tennessee, Iowa State, Connecticut, and Michigan, Kyle chose the University of Utah as his Division I Basketball destination. During his tenure with the University of Utah men's basketball team from 2014 to 2017, Kyle showcased immense potential and garnered attention from both fans and scouts alike.

Playing three seasons for the Utah Utes, Kuzma’s most productive year was his junior season in which he averaged 16.4 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game with a commendable 50% shooting from the field. In total, Kuzma built a career average of 10.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists on 50% shooting.

Standing at 6 feet 9 inches tall and possessing remarkable agility combined with strength, he proved to be a formidable force within the Pac-12 Conference.
