Maddy Westbeld is a college basketball forward for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, a team that competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference. She attended Fairmont High School before beginning her college basketball career. As a freshman in the 2020-21 season, she was WBCA All-America Regional Finalist and won the ACC Rookie of the Year. She became one of the only players in the history of Notre Dame to win Rookie of the Year in the ACC as a freshman. As a sophomore, she was on the Wooden Award Preseason Watch List. During the NCAA tournament, she averaged 15.0 points and 7.3 rebounds during that year.

Moving into her junior year in the 2022-23 season, Westbeld played 33 games and started all of them. She was named Second Team All-ACC and was on the Wooden Award Watch List. She averaged 27.5 minutes, 11.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. As a junior, Westbeld started 34 games and averaged a near double-double with 14.4 ppg and 8.7 rpg, a report in her official athlete profile says on the Notre Dame website. Additionally, in the ACC Tournament that year, she averaged 15.7 points, 6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
