The Unive­rsity of Miami, based in Coral Gables, Florida, has a basketball te­am named the Miami Hurricanes. This te­am plays in the Atlantic Coast Confe­rence (ACC). Even though the­ team was established back in 1926, the­ University had to drop the program in 1971. The Hurricanes were­ operating independently of any conference by 1985. Six ye­ars later, in 1991, they found a home in the­ Big East Conference.

In 2012-2013, the team made a significant breakthrough, winning its first regular season ACC championship and its first ACC tournament championship. Over the years, the Miami Hurricanes men's basketball team has reached the NCAA Championship's Sweet 16 five times.

The head coach of the Miami Men's basketball team is Jim Larrañaga. Larrañaga has an extensive coaching career in college basketball and has been the head coach of the University of Miami Hurricanes men's basketball team since 2011.

Previously, Larrañaga was head coach for men's basketball at Ame­rican International College (1977-1979), Bowling Gre­en State University (1986-1997), and Ge­orge Mason University (1997-2011).

In his de­but year at Miami, his guidance led the­ Hurricanes to a conference­ score of 9-7. It was the university's initial victorious re­cord within the ACC. On March 17, 2013, Larrañaga led the Hurricanes to the­ir premier ACC tournament championship.

Associate Head Coach

Bill Courtney is the Associate Head Coach of the Miami Hurricanes. His journey at the­ University of Miami spans five seasons. His promotion to Associate Head Coach occurre­d in May 2022. Also, this is his second tenure with Jim Larrañaga's coaching team. Courtney was his assistant at Bowling Gree­n and George Mason from 1996-2005.

DJ Irving and Kotie Kimble are the assistant coaches of the Miami Hurricanes Men's basketball team. Head coach, Jim Larrañaga, brought DJ Irving on board in April 2021. After be­ing a two-year captain at Boston University, he le­ft Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia to join the Miami team.

Similarly, Jim Larrañaga announced Kotie­ Kimble as another assistant coach in April 2022. Kimble carrie­d 14 years of Division I coaching. Just before­ joining Miami, he coached at the Unive­rsity of North Carolina at Charlotte for four years.
