Nebraska aims to make its second-straight NCAA Tournament and get past the first round after failing the previous eight times. With that in mind, Cornhuskers coach Fred Hoiberg formed a 17-man roster he feels would figure in the Big 10 Conference title race and possibly March Madness.
Let's take a closer look into Nebraska's upcoming campaign, from its biggest games to the key players to watch out for.
Nebraska's biggest games in the 2024-25 season
Nebraska released its non-conference schedule, and the rivalry game against Creighton highlights the 11-game lineup for the Cornhuskers. The two teams have met 57 times, and the Bluejays lead their all-time clash, 30-27. Creighton trampled Nebraska, 89-60, in their last meeting on Dec. 3, 2023.
They visit Hawaii on Dec. 22-25 for the Diamond Head Classic. Other teams competing in the mini-tournament are Charlotte, Charleston, Hawaii, Loyola Chicago, Murray State, Oakland and Oakland State.
The Big 10 Conference also unveiled its schedule matrix for the 2024-25 college basketball season. The Fred Hoiberg-coached squad will meet Iowa, Maryland and Ohio State twice in a home-and-away setup.
Nebraska hosts Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Rutgers, UCLA and USC and visits Michigan State, Northwestern, Oregon, Penn State, Purdue, Washington and Wisconsin.
Top Nebraska players to watch out for in the 2024-25 season
Nebraska had a busy offseason, picking up nine players from the transfer portal and the 2024 high school class. It also secured the commitment of eight players to stay for another season, forming a strong team to compete in the Big 10 Conference.
Here are three Nebraska players fans should watch out for in the 2024-25 season.
#1 Brice Williams
Brice Williams is set to become Nebraska's primary scoring option following the departure of top scorer Keisei Tominaga.
The six-foot-seven incoming senior averaged 13.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.1 steals this past season. Williams was also remarkable from deep, making 38.8% of his shots.
#2 Rienk Mast
Rienk Mast was a solid inside presence for Nebraska this past season, tallying 12.3 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 32 games. The Cornhuskers will rely heavily on Mast's all-around play, as he can excel on both offense and defense.
#3 Rollie Worster
Rollie Worster played only 16 games for Utah last year due to a leg injury. The pass-first guard is set to have a fresh start with Nebraska, as he's expected to set up his teammates and score points when needed.
Worster averaged 9.9 points, 5.5 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 1.4 steals per contest for Utah.
Nebraska's predictions for the 2024-25 season
Nebraska will be in for a tough campaign this coming season with the addition of Oregon, UCLA, USC and Washington in the Big 10 Conference.
The Cornhuskers are expected to win 19-22 games in the regular season and have a good chance of making the 2025 NCAA Tournament barring any surprises.
