Flau’jae Johnson reflects on LSU’s undefeated streak and SEC challenges
LSU Tigers guard Flau’jae Johnson shared her perspective on her team’s excellent season during a recent episode of her "Best of Both Worlds" podcast. With the Tigers boasting an 18-0 record and one of only five undefeated teams in the country, Johnson expressed gratitude and excitement for what lies ahead.
“Talking about LSU basketball from my point of view,” Johnson said on Friday. “We’re 17-0 and one of five undefeated teams in the country. Blessed to be in the position going into the SEC.”
Johnson acknowledged the challenges of the SEC and recognized its level of competition.
“The SEC is one of the toughest conferences,” Johnson said. “Anybody can be beat on any given night. It’s who’s gonna be most prepared that night.”
Johnson highlighted how the early games in the season have been an opportunity for growth, both individually and as a team. She emphasized the importance of learning from each matchup to prepare for the tougher competition ahead.
“It’s just been beautiful. I’m just super excited about that,” Johnson said. “These games have come with a lot of learning and understanding going into the tougher SEC matchups. Our mindset is about getting better every day, trying to get better as a team and as individuals.”
The games feel personal for her. Reflecting on LSU’s loss to Auburn on their home court last year, she shared how that memory has fueled her drive.
“All games kinda feel personal to me because Auburn,” Johnson said. “We lost at their house last year. I didn’t play as well as I wanted to, and I beat myself up about it.
“I feel like mentally, I’m stronger than I’ve been, so I gotta start displaying that more even when I don’t have the games that I wanna play.”
With a focus on improvement and a hunger for redemption, Johnson and her teammates are poised to tackle the challenges of SEC play while continuing their stellar season.
