Weeks after becoming the fastest coach in LSU history to garner 100 wins, Kim Mulkey broke another record. After the Tigers beat Florida 80-63 on Sunday, the four-time NCAA championship coach solidified her 25th consecutive season with at least 20 wins (21 with Baylor and four at Baton Rouge). She has also had 30-win seasons with both programs 10 times.
As the SEC Network and the Tigers updated the achievement on Instagram, $1.5 million NIL-valued Flau'jae Johnson commented on the post to showcase her surprise:
"Ok this is crazy," Johnson wrote.
LSU's Director of Player Personnel and Influence, Jennifer Shea Roberts, who was part of Kim Mulkey's coaching staff at Baylor, commented:
"WINNER!"
Kim Mulkey showered love en route her latest feat. In the first quarter of the contest, she presented Florida coach Kelly Rae Finley, who's expecting a baby in April, with gifts.
This is the second time Mulkey has gifted a coach this season. She had also extended the gesture earlier this month to Tennessee coach Kim Caldwell, who's "due any day" with her first child.
Mulkey said that her efforts stem from Pat Summitt's mentorship, who inspired her to balance motherhood and coaching in her career.
Flau'jae Johnson and Kim Mulkey are up for an SEC Championship rematch
The LSU Tigers (20-0, 5-0 Southeastern Conference) will now take their unblemished record to the Colonial Life Arena to face the South Carolina Gamecocks (18-1, 6-0 SEC) on Thursday.
Given that Kim Mulkey's squad has faced only two ranked teams this season (then-No. 20 NC State and then-No. 16 Tennessee), the No. 2 defending champions will be the toughest game for the Tigers yet.
The Tigers also have unfinished business with the Gamecocks from the previous season. The two teams last met in March 2024 for the SEC Championship game. A heated moment unfurled in the last quarter, where Flau'jae Johnson was shoved to the ground by South Carolina's center Kamilla Cardoso. It sparked a courtside scuffle between two teams, resulting in six ejections before USC won 79-72.
While stars like Angel Reese, Cardoso and Haley Van Lith have moved on, the two teams will see more than 10 returning players from the championship game.
