Flau'Jae Johnson talks about future of women's basketball after historic deal with Unrivaled
Flau'Jae Johnson was the second college athlete to sign with the 3x3 women's basketball league Unrivaled after UConn's Paige Bueckers. The LSU star explained the importance of the league in women's basketball.
"Leagues like this, women don’t have to go overseas anymore," she said in an interview with FOX Sports News. "Now, they could stay home, be playing in Miami where the sky is beautiful and collect a check. I think it’s so important what they’re doing – they’re really changing the game.
"Being somebody that’s going to be in the WNBA soon, having another option, this is big. This is big for the women, the girls coming up in high school, the girls coming up in college, it’s just big for women’s sports in general."
Historically, WNBA players had to play abroad during the offseason to add to their salaries from the league.
Johnson's deal with Unrivaled means she will join the league in its first season in January 2025. For now, she plays more of a promotional role while playing for LSU in the NCAA.
