UConn head coach Dan Hurley is at the pinnacle of his coaching career. Having won back-to-back NCAA national championships with the Huskies, he is now aiming for a three-peat.

Hurley, who reportedly rejected a Los Angeles Lakers job offer in June, agreed to a six-year, $50 million contract extension with UConn on Monday. He dedicated his success to the staff he has assembled at each stage of his career.

"I've got a great staff and I've always, my whole career everywhere, they literally take every place I've ever coached," Hurley said. "Whether I was at Wagner, where I had my brother and Bashir Mason, who's a very successful division one head coach.
And Luke Murray was with me back then and I had that level of the staff around me at Wagner. So it's just been a huge key to the successful programs that have everywhere I've been had amazing people and we've made it really difficult for people to leave."

Hurley's coaching panel comprises Kimani Young, Tom Moore and Luke Murray. Young started working as an assistant for Hurley in 2018 and was promoted to associate head coach in September 2020.

Moore also came on board in 2018 along with Hurley. Meanwhile, Murray, who Hurley previously worked with at Wagner and Rhode Island, joined UConn in 2021.

Dan Hurley's new UConn contract breakdown

Dan Hurley's salary got a substantial rise as he signed a new contract on Monday.

  • Length: Six years
  • Total Pay: $50 million
  • Base Salary: $400,000

Hurley's new contract includes a base salary of $400,000 per year. In the 2024-25 season, he will receive additional compensation totaling $6.375 million. Additionally, he will get a retention bonus of $1 million annually.

However, it still will not be enough for him to top the list of highest-paid college basketball coaches. According to the USA Sports database, Hurley's 7.775 million 2024 salary ranks him third behind Kansas' Bill Self and John Calipari of Arkansas.

"On behalf of UConn Nation, we are thrilled that Coach Hurley will continue to lead the Men's Basketball program for the foreseeable future," UConn athletic director David Benedict said.
"This contract is recognition for the immense amount of effort that went into producing those results and the dedication it will require to sustain a program that expects to compete for conference and national championships in the future."

Since taking over the program in 2018, Dan Hurley has transformed the Huskies into a powerhouse in college basketball. In his six seasons at Connecticut, Hurley's record stands at 141-58 (.709), with two national championships and a Big East Regular Season and Tournament title.
