Dawn Staley has always been vocal about her support for A'ja Wilson on social media. The South Carolina coach and her former player often give each other shouts on X and Staley continued this with her latest post.
Las Vegas Aces center, Wilson, is all set to release her signature shoes, A'One Collection with Nike. Staley promoted it, asking fans to pre-order the shoes as she predicted them to be sold out quickly.
"@_ajawilson22 and that A’One Collection is going to be just different! I mean when that pre-order link hit you better get ready or settle for A none!," Staley tweeted.
Nike said in a press release that the A’One Collection will be released in 2025 and priced at $110. Describing the shoe, A'ja Wilson said:
“My main requests were for a lightweight and comfortable shoe, suitable for both on-court performance and casual wear.”
Dawn Staley also praised Wilson after her cover on 2025 NBA 2k along with Jayson Tatum.
"Do it do it do it @_ajawilson22! Super proud of you for raising the bar on and off the court! A true blessing to see your uncommon favor displayed," she wrote on X.
Dawn Staley continues to be an inspiration for young players
Dawn Staley's journey began as a college athlete with the Virginia Cavaliers. She led the team to four NCAA tournaments, including three Final Fours and one title game. For her achievements, Staley was named national player of the year in 1991 and 1992.
When Staley graduated, the WNBA was still not formed so her opportunities were limited. After a short international career, she returned and joined the WNBA in 1999. At the same time, Dawn Staley also took up a full-time coaching career with Temple. She balanced both careers until 2006, after which she retired from playing.
Coach Staley has witnessed all the changing tides in women's basketball, going from a least-watched sport to enjoying prime time now. In a recent video for "See Her," the four-time Coach of the Year said:
"Growing up, my dream to be a professional athlete was an impossible goal. Today, we are in an incredible place with women's basketball, a place I did not believe would happen in my lifetime."
"I think with the success that I've had and the barriers that I've broken, I believe that I'm an example of all types of possibilities for the next generation of girls to not see limits. That's transformational."
