No. 20 North Carolina is set to host No. 10 Alabama on Wednesday night in the 2024 SEC/ACC Challenge. This will be a rematch of their Sweet 16 encounter in the 2023-24 season.

The Tar Heels, currently 4-3, are looking to rebound after consecutive losses to Auburn and Michigan State in the Maui Invitational. Meanwhile, the Crimson Tide, boasting a 6-2 record, is also aiming to bounce back after a holiday tournament defeat to Oregon in Las Vegas.

In the Sweet 16 of the last NCAA Tournament, Alabama edged out North Carolina 89-87 in a nail-biting contest that stood out as one of the tournament's most exhilarating games. Something similar is expected at the Dean E. Smith Center in Chapel Hill, NC on Wednesday.

Alabama vs. North Carolina summary

It was a huge win for Alabama in Chapel Hill as it once again secured a win against North Carolina. The Crimson Tide once again counted on the brilliance of Mark Sears who recorded 20 points in the game. He scored 18 in the previous meeting earlier this year.

The Tide were brilliant in short conversion, aiding the team in sealing the win. They converted 49.3% of their field goals and 36.4% of their 3-pointers. Their balanced scoring under Nate Oats continues to be a significant asset, with at least five players recording double-digit points for the fourth consecutive game.

The Tar Heel had a host of brilliant performers in the game, keeping the contest close and exciting all through. Freshman Ian Jackson delivered a season-high 23 points, while RJ Davis added 18 and Seth Trimble contributed 12. This, however, amounted to nothing.

Alabama secured its first road victory of the season, offsetting an earlier loss at Purdue. They move to 7-2, creating anticipation for another brilliant season under Nate Oat. North Carolina, on the other hand, has now dropped three consecutive games, bringing some uncertainty.
