She tallied 16 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and three steals in her all-around performance. The Huskies improved to 15-2 on the season, extending their undefeated streak in the Big East to six games.

Strong’s efforts earned her praise on social media, with UConn Women’s Basketball sharing an Instagram post that read:

The game saw UConn overcome a sluggish start, as Georgetown built a 31-28 lead midway through the second quarter. However, a 20-6 run spanning halftime, capped by Shade’s three-pointer in the third quarter, turned the game around for the Huskies.

Georgetown’s strong three-point shooting, hitting 10 of 26 attempts, kept them competitive early. However, they couldn’t match UConn’s balanced attack. The Hoyas, who average 6.9 three-pointers per game, now hold an 8-8 record and will travel to face Butler on Tuesday. Meanwhile, UConn wraps up its two-game road swing with an upcoming clash against St. John’s.

Sarah Strong became a rising star

Earlier this week, Strong and redshirt senior Paige Bueckers were named to the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 list. Bueckers, a former Wooden Award winner in 2021, leads UConn with 19.9 points per game and has notched nine 20-point games this season. She boasts a shooting percentage of 55.9% from the field and 40.3% from three-point range, alongside a 3.16 assist-to-turnover ratio, which ranks eighth nationally.

Strong, the No. 1 recruit in her class, has scored in double digits in every game, with six 20-point outings and three double-doubles. She leads the team in rebounds, steals and blocks, and is second in scoring. Notably, Strong is the only freshman on the Wooden Award midseason list.

She has converted 83.1% of her shots at the rim, well above the Division I average. Her midrange shooting is equally reliable, with a 50% success rate, and she hits 36.3% of her three-point attempts.

UConn’s victory over Georgetown solidifies its position as one of the top teams in the nation. With upcoming games against St. John’s and Xavier, the Huskies have the opportunity to further their Big East dominance. The Xavier matchup will also serve as UConn’s Pride Night celebration, honoring the LGBTQ+ community.
