Kim Mulkey reflects on her journey with the LSU Tigers
After 21 years with Baylor, Kim Mulkey moved to Baton Rouge in 2021. She led LSU to its first national championship in 2023 and finished last season with an Elite Eight appearance.
Reminiscing on her time with the Tigers, coach Mulkey credited her coaching staff for helping her achieve this feat.
"The older I get the more I realize that the Bob Starkeys of the world keep me in coaching longer because of instead of me leaving here right now and going to watch Stanford film, I can leave here and take a deep breath because I know Bob Starkey will have the film ready before dark," Mulkey said per The Daily Advertiser.
Kim Mulkey's coaching staff includes associated head coach Bob Starkey, assistant coaches Gary Redus II, Daphne Mitchell, Kaylin Rice, Joe Schwartz and Jennifer Roberts. Some members of the staff have been with her since her Baylor days.
"Those assistants can get you fired or they can make you look great. When I say fired, that means you're not winning, you're not getting players, you're not recruiting.
"I'm blessed that I haven't had much turnover in my career at Baylor and really haven't had much turnover at LSU other than for retirement. I'm comfortable in delegating because they now know me."
Led by Flau'jae Johnson, the LSU Tigers have high hopes for this season. They have already had a great start as they are No. 1 in the SEC with a 9-0 overall record.
