College basketball fans were mad at Purdue's physicality after Northwestern player Brooks Barnhizer apparently lost his two front teeth in the middle of the game on Sunday. The matchup, at the Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Indiana, ended with the No. 20 Boilermakers winning 79-61 against the Wildcats.
The 6-foot-6 Barnhizer was trying to get past Raleigh Burgess and CJ Cox when he was accidentally hit, and his teeth went flying out.
Some fans slammed Purdue on X (formerly Twitter) for hitting the Northwestern guard, causing his teeth to fly away from his mouth. One fan accused the Boilermakers of "always playing dirty."
"Purdue always playing dirty," the fan wrote.
"Classic Purdue dirty team," another college basketball enthusiast added.
Other fans, who reacted immediately to the video, slammed the game officials for not calling an infraction on a Purdue player.
"No flagrant because the Edey Whistle lives on," a fan said.
"Bet no foul was called," a college hoops enthusiast added.
"Yeah it was crazy seeing it live lol no foul," a fan added.
"Agaisnt Purdue? Probably an offensive foul," another user opined.
But after a second look at the video, Barnhizer spat the front teeth out, and it turned out to be false teeth. This caused the fans' anger to turn into laughs, and they threw some hilarious comments at the guard.
"lmao where’s the hit?," one fan asked.
“That’s a good no-call.” - 🤡," a college hoops fan exclaimed.
"He didn’t loose them today, he had them knocked out at a practice, he lost the temporary false teeth," another fan quipped.
"Nothing flagrant about this play. Maybe issue a flagrant on his dentist that attached those chiclets," a user added.
Brooks Barnhizer, Northwestern lose to Purdue in key Big Ten clash
Like Brooks Barnhizer, Northwestern failed to recover from that incident, losing to Purdue, 79-61, in a key Big Ten showdown.
Barnhizer bled for his points and was limited to 11 points on 4-of-15 shooting from the field, including 1-of-4 from the 3-point line. The 6-foot-6 guard, however, hauled in eight rebounds, five assists, one steal and three blocks. Barnhizer had difficulty figuring out the Boilermakers' physical defense before the incident. He coughed up eight turnovers as Purdue's defense was all over him.
The loss dropped the Wildcats to 1-3 in the Big Ten and 10-5 overall, while No. 20-ranked Purdue snared its third conference win in four games and 11-4 overall.
Braden Smith topped the Boilermakers' offense with 22 points, six rebounds, seven assists and two steals in 35 minutes, while Trey Kaufman-Renn and CJ Cox added 12 points each.
