Dan Hurley drew attention with his on-court antics in the first half of the No. 25 UConn Huskies' game against the No. 15 Baylor Bears at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion on Wednesday.
Hurley was fired up on the bench after Aidan Mahaney's basket cut Baylor's lead to 21-18 with 9:40 remaining in the opening period. A screaming Hurley bumped chests with Mahaney before headbutting him in a wild celebration.
Fans offered their takes on Hurley's latest headline-grabbing move. Below are some of the reactions posted on X (formerly Twitter).
"Dan Hurley is an actual psycho."
"This man has lost it."
"Is this normal?"
Other fans loved the intensity they saw from Hurley.
"Freaking love Dan Hurley’s fire and passion," one fan wrote.
"Dan Hurley skull crush me into another dimension," another fan posted.
"What’s funny from these replies is that people still after all these years haven’t realized that we love Dan and you don’t have to. He’s perfect for CT," one fan explained.
Dan Hurley looking for spark after UConn's Maui Invitational nightmare
Hurley and the Huskies got off to a poor start against the Bears, trailing 21-12 after a Norchad Omier layup with 11:02 left in the first half. Mahaney answered back, though, launching back-to-back 3-pointers to send the UConn fans into a frenzy.
UConn's title defense has not gone according to plan for Hurley, with his team going winless at the Maui Invitational. The Huskies finished in eighth place in the three-day, multi-team event, losing to the Memphis Tigers, Colorado Buffaloes and the Dayton Flyers.
All of those defeats came against unranked teams, causing the Huskies to drop to No. 25 in the Associated Press rankings. Hurley blamed the referees for the Huskies' defeats to Memphis and Colorado, which they both lost by one possession.
He drew a technical in the 99-97 loss to the Tigers after complaining about Liam McNeeley's over-the-back foul during overtime. Hurley then blasted a no-call that went against the Huskies in the final minute of their game against the Buffaloes, who pulled off a 73-72 victory.
