Angel Reese may be sidelined with a wrist injury, but the former LSU forward was present for the Chicago Sky game on Sunday. They were playing Phoenix Mercury and Reese was seen taking the unofficial coaching role by the sidelines.
Overtime posted the video of this WNBA rookie where she was engaged in an animated discussion with the Chicago coach, Teresa Weatherspoon, potentially about the game strategy.
Fans in the comments pointed out her similarities to LSU coach Kim Mulkey, who is known to be the most spirited coach in college basketball.
"Minus the crazy suits Kim be wearing," one fan pointed out.
Here are a few more reactions:
Angel Reese last played on September 6 against the Los Angeles Sparks when she scored 24 points and 12 rebounds, her 26th double-double, and ended Chicago's seven-game losing streak.
One day later, the forward announced the end of her rookie season following a hairline fracture on her wrist, which required surgery.
While she is set to miss six weeks of playing, the Sky forward will be cleared in time for Unrivaled, the new women's 3x3 professional basketball league.
When Angel Reese opened up about her relationship with LSU coach Kim Mulkey
Angel Reese played two years with the Maryland Terrapins before transferring to the LSU Tigers for her junior and senior years. She led the Tigers to an NCAA championship in 2023 and an Elite Eight run in 2024.
In her time at Baton Rouge, Reese built a great working relationship with coach Mulkey. While they did have their worst moments, the forward spoke highly of her former coach when she attended a Chicago game in June.
"She’ll support you no matter what," Reece said after the game. "She’s like a mother to me. She calls me still, she checks in on me making sure I’m good. Checks in on my family, calls my grandma. It's a relationship that a lot of people don't see. I love Coach Mulkey."
After she declared for the 2024 WNBA draft, coach Mulkey also praised Reese and said:
"We are all indebted to Angel Reese for the contributions she has given to this program, helping us win our first National Championship, and the contributions she made to our university as a whole."
With Angel Reese now in the WNBA, coach Mulkey has a huge task of leading the Tigers to another championship after they failed to defend one last season.
