Matt Leinart, a former NFL player now working as a Fox Sports personality, has weighed in with his opinion on Angel Reese's Flagrant 1 foul on Caitlin Clark. Leinart has called for Reese to be suspended for the play.

Despite Reese's foul being viewed as incidental contact during a hard play on the ball, Leinart believes Reese deserves a harsher punishment. Leinart shared his thoughts on his X account about the play:

“Angel Reese should be suspended. Period. Not good for the game," Leinart posted on X.

The Chicago Sky lost to the Indiana Fever 91-83 this Sunday. During the third quarter, Caitlin Clark drove left-handed to the basket and attempted a layup with her right hand.

Angel Reese moved to defend, aiming for the ball, but she made contact with Clark’s head. Despite achieving a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds, Reese’s actions were contentious.

Initially deemed a personal foul, the officials reviewed the play and upgraded it to a flagrant 1, citing "follow through, impact, unnecessary hit to the head." Clark capitalized on the opportunity, making both free throws.

Caitlin Clark showed no animosity towards Reese after the game. She said that Reese was merely trying to make a play.

Former WNBA champion Swin Cash defended Angel Reese

Swin Cash, a three-time WNBA champion and four-time All-Star, recently criticized the media's biased coverage of Angel Reese following the Indiana Fever-Chicago Sky game on Sunday.

The “Caitlin Clark vs Angel Reese” narrative has gained significant traction, especially after their intense college rivalry. During their second professional matchup, Reese's flagrant foul on Clark became the focal point of media coverage, overshadowing other aspects of the game.

The first encounter on June 1 included Chennedy Carter's harsh foul on Clark and Reese's aggressive play. In response to the media's portrayal, Swin Cash took to X to defend Reese.

She condemned the focus on Reese's foul and the questioning of her intentions. She tweeted:

“To have the only highlight of Angel be that foul is nasty work by these outlets… U know what you're doing while also questioning her intent is nonsense! They got it right, it was a flagrant 1 it was called by the refs & the players played on.”

Cash’s remarks emphasized the ongoing conversation about media bias and the portrayal of athletes, particularly within the WNBA.
