Dan Hurley's UConn Huskies suffered their first conference loss of the season on Wednesday at the hands of Kyle Neptune's Villanova Wildcats. At Finneran Pavilion, Villanova withstood a late UConn comeback attempt and held on for a critical 68-66 victory.

The loss drops UConn to 12-4 overall and 4-1 in Big East play. It gave some fans from across the college basketball landscape a chance to mock and ridicule the defending national champion Huskies and their coach.

Here are some reactions from fans on X/Twitter:

"Love this, any time Dan Hurley loses, America wins," one fan wrote.
"So much for the three peat," another said.
"UConn should change name to YouConMan, way overrated!" another fan jabbed.

Here are a few more reactions:

"Oh Dan Hurley’s UConn Huskies lost you say? Time for a song!" one fan said.
"But I was told UConn is a title contender now," another wrote sarcastically.
"Damn Dannyboy Hurley ain’t been the same this season," one fan added.

While Hurley is generally respected as one of the better coaches in the sport, his tendency to get a bit animated on the sidelines and often clash with officials is a big reason he has become something of a lightning rod among neutral fans.

Dan Hurley breaks down tough loss against Villanova

Dan Hurley and the No. 9 UConn Huskies entered Wednesday night's game against the Villanova Wildcats looking to stay undefeated in the Big East.

Riding an eight-game winning streak heading into the matchup at Finneran Pavilion, they hoped to extend their streak, but the Wildcats had other plans. Villanova defeated UConn 68-66 in a back-and-forth contest that came down to the wire.

"Really hard-fought game," Hurley said postgame. "Credit Nova, for finding a way to win it ... Obviously the turnovers hurt us. Pretty efficient when we didn't turn the basketball over.
"But we knew it was going to be a tough game. I feel a lot better sitting here than I did after the Providence game ... I don’t think many people are going to win here," he added.

Dan Hurley's men gave up 13 turnovers on the night, compared to Villanova's six. The Huskies came close to winning when the score read 66-67 with three seconds left, but Alex Karaban missed both free throw attempts, allowing Villanova to escape with the victory.
