The latest update of the AP Top 25 men's college basketball poll on Monday caught the attention of several fans. There were several movers in the Week 11 update, the most notable being the Tennessee Volunteers being knocked off the top spot after holding it down for five weeks.
Auburn finally reaped the rewards of its recent impeccable performances, replacing Tennessee at the top of the weekly poll. Soon after the update, fans on social media expressed their opinions, with some believing the Associated Press got it right on this occasion.
"BREAKING: AP voters finally discover ball knowledge," one fan said.
"Knew Tennessee was never deserving of number 1. Clearly overrated and no post play," another said.
Another fan added: "I’m agreeing with an Auburn fan. I was gonna be PISSED if UGA wasn’t ranked. And yes auburn should be 1 right now."
However, the latest update also had its share of critics, who believed some teams deserved more recognition and higher positions.
One fan said: "Oregon should be in the top ten by what they’ve proved. They have the most quad 1 wins in the country."
Another said: "How did Florida 30 ball #1 Tennessee and only jump 1."
"They moved UCONN down to 14 after a loss they should have taken into OT and a win where they dominated GT at GT? lol Harsh," another added.
AP Top 25 Week 11 update: Tennessee, UConn and Illinois lose big as Florida breaks into top five
Tennessee suffered a five-place drop to sixth in the latest update of the AP Top 25, with its crushing 73-43 defeat to Florida on Tuesday playing a major role in that. The victory in Gainesville, Fla., benefited the Gators immensely, as they broke into the top five for the first time this season.
UConn, the reigning national champion, also fell five places to 14th after suffering a shocking defeat to Villanova on Wednesday. However, the biggest loser was Illinois, which fell six places down to 19th.
Michigan and Michigan State were the biggest gainers in the Week 11 update of the AP Top 25, with both programs gaining four places to move to 20th and 12th respectively. Kansas, which started the season as the top-ranked team in the nation, returned to the top 10 as it continues its push to the postseason.
