Todd Golden's Florida Gators and Bobby Hurley's Arizona State are set to finalize an agreement for a December 14 matchup in Atlanta’s State Farm Center. The two teams have faced off twice previously (1984 and 2008), with the Gators emerging victorious in both.
The Sun Devils will embark on the 2024-25 season behind a 14-18 record last year, ending their season in the first round of the Pac-12 Tournament. Florida, meanwhile, endured a better campaign, finishing as the SEC Tournament’s runner-up and earning the NCAA bid.
The Gators are also set to compete in the ESPN Events Invitational with possible encounters with Wake Forest, Minnesota or Wichita State in Orlando (November 28 and 29). They will also host the ACC-SEC Challenge game against Virginia early in December.
While Arizona State is still building its non-conference schedule, they are aligned for home and away games against the Arizona Wildcats, Colorado, BYU, Texas Tech and Kansas State.
ASU will play home games against TCU, Iowa State, Baylor, UCF and Houston and will hit the road against Oklahoma State, Utah, Cincinnati Kansas and West Virginia.
Florida and Arizona State have significantly bolstered their rosters in the offseason
The Florida Gators harbor a promising unit after the additions of Sam Alexis, Alijah Martin and Reuben Chinyelu. However, only time will see if they can make up for Micah Handlogten (injury), Zyon Pullin (eligibility) and Tyrese Samuel (eligibility).
Nevertheless, as Will Richard and Walter Clayton Jr. return after withdrawing early from the 2024 draft, they are anticipated for a bigger role in the coming season and take on a lot of the Gators’ frontline load.
The Sun Devils have managed commitments from five-star recruit Jayden Quaintance after he de-committed from Kentucky’s coaching change alongside multiple four-star recruits in Joson Sanon and Amier Ali.
eover, Arizona State sees a revamped roster with five transfer portal additions - BJ Freeman (Milwaukee Panthers), Brandon Gardner (USC Trojans), Basheer Jihad (Ball State Cardinals), Alston Mason (Missouri State Bears) and Austin Nunez (Ole Miss Rebels).
Arizona will look to put a dent in Florida's winning history against them as it looks to make waves in its first season in the Big 12 conference.
