Auburn Tigers basketball head coach Bruce Pearl took to X to talk about the Israel-Hamas war. He reposted Tech Columnist Hillel Fuld's post, who said that he drove his son and his friends to the base to fight in the war.
Pearl, who is a father to four kids, compared the lives of fathers in the US to those in Israel:
"Today Fathers in the US might drive their sons or daughters to a bus to go to school, camp, a ball game, a field trip, vaca, visit family etc. In Israel Fathers are driving their sons to war to defend their families from enemies who want to kill them! I stand with Israel!"
The original post by Fuld talked about the devastating effects of the war and the trauma that it has caused. Fuld also said their tears have dried up because they lost so much and the devastation was immense.
Bruce Pearl's emotional letter to his late father
Amid the Father's Day celebrations, Bruce Pearl also talked about his father, Bernie Pearl, who passed away last year after dealing with a “brief illness,” aged 88. Bruce wrote that his dad was very hardworking and loyal.
"My dad worked six days a week every day of his life. I grew up not knowing that Saturday was a day off. I understood from a very young age the meaning of hard work," said Bruce Pearl. "He was loyal and loved his family. His hobby was loving his family. To the very best of his ability. My dad made time for me and our family."
Bruce Pearl should be a proud dad. His son, Steven, has been doing extremely well for Auburn and was named one of the 50 most impactful high-major assistant coaches in Division I basketball by the Silver Waves Media.
Steven has been in the organization for 10 years and could follow Bruce after he retires as the head coach.
