Audi Crooks and the Iowa State Cyclones cruised to a convincing 71-58 victory over the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Tuesday night. However, they broke a streak that involved making at least one 3-pointer every game.

Going 0-of-7 from beyond the arc, their streak of making at least one 3-pointer in a game ended after 945 consecutive games, an NCAA record. It's the first time they haven't converted a triple since 1995 against the Colorado Buffaloes.

Head coach Bill Fennelly and Crooks reflected postgame on the streak ending, providing their stances on the program's historic record.

"I get it's a big deal to some people, and it's a big deal to us too. I'm proud of the streak that was there, but it's just like a kid getting a triple double. I'm not leaving them in the game to get stats. I don't believe in that. That's just me," Fennelly said.
"Yes, the streak is cool, but at the same time, we're able to win basketball games by scoring only in the paint and from the free throw line. 21 points from the free throw line. Are you kidding me? Like, that's crazy, but I also do understand the tradition and the value in that streak, so we do apologize. But the paint was working tonight," Crooks added.

How Audi Crooks, Iowa State did against Texas Tech

Despite their 3-point streak coming to an end, Audi Crooks and the Cyclones had a significant edge over the Red Raiders.

After a slow first quarter, Iowa State proceeded to shoot above 50% from the field for the last three quarters as they applied a lot of pressure on Texas Tech's shot selection. The Red Raiders only converted 33.9% of their total shot attempts, including 33.3% from beyond the arc.

Crooks finished with a game-high 30 points and seven rebounds on 11-of-20 shooting from the field. Addy Brown assisted her with 21 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while Arianna Jackson and Emily Ryan put up seven points each.

The win improves Iowa State to 13-6 on the season, including 4-2 in conference play. They are averaging 76.2 points per game on shooting splits of 46.7% overall and 34.7% from 3, as Crooks leads the way with 22.6 ppg and 7.7 rpg.

Crooks and Co. will prepare for a ranked matchup on the road against No. 20 West Virginia next on Jan. 19 at 1:00 p.m. ET.
