Azzi Fudd and the UConn Huskies extended their winning streak to three games on Sunday, defeating the Villanova Wildcats 83-52 at Finneran Pavilion. Three players scored in double figures for the Huskies, who improved their overall record to 13-2.
UConn defeated Villanova despite a low-scoring outing from Fudd. She finished the contest with eight points, three rebounds and one steal. Fudd played 21 minutes in her third start since suffering a knee injury in the Huskies' victory over the Louisville Cardinals on Dec. 7.
Fudd shot 3-for-5 from the field, including 2-of-4 from beyond the arc. She shot above 50% from the floor for the first time since returning to the starting lineup. Fudd struggled to make baskets in her past two starts, shooting a combined 6-for-24 in the wins over Providence and Marquette.
Below are her stats from the game against Villanova.
Sarah Strong picks up scoring slack amid Azzi Fudd's eight-point outing
This was the seventh time this season that Fudd failed to reach double figures for the No. 7 UConn Huskies. She also scored eight points in each of her last two starts against the Friars and the Golden Eagles.
Sarah Strong picked up the scoring slack on the road. She led the team in scoring with 21 points, going 9-for-12 from the field. She had five rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block for the Huskies, who remained unbeaten in conference play with a 4-0 record against their Big East opponents.
Strong wreaked havoc in the first half, scoring 17 of her 21 points during that stretch. She shot 7-for-9 from the floor in the opening period, including 2-for-3 from the 3-point area. The freshman forward recorded her sixth 20-point game of the season against Villanova.
Paige Bueckers also contributed for the Huskies, scoring 15 points before departing with a knee injury with 1:17 remaining in the third quarter. She limped off the court after colliding with the Wildcats' Jasmine Bascoe. Bueckers came one assist shy of recording her first double-double of the season.
KK Arnold also provided some much-needed scoring off the bench with 15 points. She was efficient on the offensive end, making six of her seven field-goal attempts. Arnold drained her lone 3-point shot and knocked down both of her free-throw attempts.
