The 2024-2025 Notre Dame Fighting Irish are no longer looking like the 5-0 team they were at the start of the season. After Friday's 76-68 heartbreaker against TCU, No. 3 Notre Dame was handed its second defeat of the season by the Utah Utes, 78-67, on Sunday.
Fans on X took aim at the monster campaign second-year star Hannah Hidalgo had been putting together as it looks like the Irish could be toppled by their favorite teams.
"Teams are saying enough of this Olivia Miles & Hannah Hidalgo talk. Love it," one user wrote.
"HANNAH HIDALGO LOSS OH I KEEP WINNING," another exclaimed.
"Back to back loss for Hannah Hidalgo," a user posted.
However, some doubt is brewing among the Hidalgo faithful amid the hope that Notre Dame and its budding standout can turn it around early in the season.
"Hannah Hidalgo stinker today," one fan captioned, along with a meme that read, "we might be in trouble."
"Hannah Hidalgo and Olivia Miles played the game of their lives against USC. Then turn around to lose to TCU and Utah. Wow," a fan shared in disbelief.
"Hannah Hidalgo lost again," another said.
Against the Utes, Hidalgo had the worst game of her sophomore year thus far. She scored under 20 points for the first time, finishing with 16 on a subpar 35.3% field goal percentage. Hidalgo also had three rebounds, three steals and a block in the loss.
Notre Dame now faces a 5-2 record in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The school will have the chance to return to success when Hidalgo and the rest of the Fighting Irish take on the No. 5 Texas Longhorns on Thursday at the Joyce Center.
Hannah Hidalgo is still the budding star she is this season
Fans of the 19-year-old Hidalgo shouldn't fret after back-to-back losses as she is still posting a phenomenal season.
Currently, Hidalgo is still among the top scorers in the whole nation with 23.9 points per game. She is adding to her production with averages of 6.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists and a remarkable 4.6 steals per contest.
For a school that saw its last national championship six years ago, there is no doubt that fans of the Fighting Irish are just expecting more from their newfound gem of a player.
It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out especially when Hidalgo embarks on nonconference play soon enough while responding to the high expectations.
