Flau'jae Johnson's mom Kia Brooks, like every other LSU fan watching the Tigers-Huskies game unfold, felt just as nervous, as the final seconds ticked away.

It was a hard-fought battle for Johnson and the No. 7 LSU women's basketball team on Monday night, as they faced an unranked Washington team in the semifinals of the Pink Flamingo Championship in the Bahamas.

LSU struggled to pull away for much of the game but in the final second, junior guard Kailyn Gilbert made a last-gasp layup to give the Tigers a dramatic 68-67 victory and send them to the championship game.

After the game, Kia Brooks reposted LSU's Instagram post of Gilbert celebrating the clutch basket on her story, adding a loving message.

"Beautiful inside and out!! Proud of you my girl @kailyngilbert_," Brooks wrote.

Washington almost won the game as they led LSU 67-64, with one minute left. However, with 44 seconds to go, Flau'jae Johnson made a layup and brought the lead down to one point. Then, in the final second, Gilbert scored a game-winning basket to maintain the Tigers' perfect record this season, which extends to 7-0.

Gilbert, who joined Kim Mulkey's squad this offseason from Arizona, finished the game with eight points and three rebounds in 17 minutes of play. Meanwhile, Johnson, the team's leading scorer, had 19 points and 4 rebounds.

Smith, a redshirt sophomore forward for LSU, recorded her second double-double of the season in the game, finishing with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Smith missed most of the previous season due to a knee injury but has bounced back strong this year, providing a valuable presence in the paint for the Tigers.

The 6-foot-2 athlete from Texas is averaging 10.0 points and 7.7 rebounds with 65.9% shooting from the field through the first seven games. The 16 points on Monday were also her highest scoring output this campaign so far.

The Lady Tigers will look to contiinue their perfect start on Wednesday when they face No. 20 NC State in the Pink Flamingo Championship final.
