Kansas coach Bill Self had high praise for the Jayhawks' latest commit, Darryn Peterson. The 6-foot-5 combo guard chose KU over other notable programs like Ohio State, Kansas State, USC and others. Now, as Peterson prepares to get the first glimpse of his future home, KU posted Self's comment on the upcoming freshman.

The coach not only commended Peterson's skillset but also claimed that he is the best recruit he has secured in his 22 years with Kansas.

"To me, Darryn is the best player we have recruited since we’ve been here," Bill Self at a news conference on Monday. "When you talk about a player and the combination of a player and a prospect, I think that’s without question. He is a special talent."

While Kansas Jayhawks remain excited, they pressed on Self's opening comment about Peterson in the comments.

"Over Mclemore, Wiggins and Oubre!? Wow high compliment," a fan wrote.
"Better than A Wiggins ? Better than Embiid ?" another fan commented.
"Wiggins was even on SI cover, Chamberlain, Manning, and Wiggins," another fan wrote.

With that, a few fans followed suit in full support of the coach:

"Straight facts and he ain’t even stepped yet. Yall claiming cap is crazy like he’s been the head coach there forever lmao he had all the talent you can think of. He knows what he’s talking about. Bro is that special too 🔥🔥 watch," a fan commented.
"Best part of dude game nobody talks about is being able to guard 1-4!" another fan wrote.
"He’s not lying though. Mamba type qualities all over this dude! Watch," another fan commented.

Darryn Peterson will sit right behind Bill Self's roster on Tuesday

When the Kansas Jayhawks face West Virginia on Tuesday in the Big 12 opener, Darryn Peterson will be seated right behind Bill Self's bench at Allen Fieldhouse. The guard arrived on Monday afternoon with his family.

Peterson officially visited Kansas in June. However, he could not tour Allen Fieldhouse at the time as it was under renovation. With that, his latest trip to KU will be a wholesome dive into the Jayhawks culture.

Darryn Peterson, expected to be named to the McDonald’s All-America Game roster in January, chose Bill Self's program as it falls in line with athletic and academic goals. Self and assistant Kurtis Townsend began recruiting Peterson when he was in his freshman high school year.
