NCAA basketball analyst Talia Goodman has called for Florida State Seminoles' Ta'Niya Latson to be included in the race for the National Player of the Year. In a post on her X account on Sunday, Goodman tweeted that Latson needs to be considered without question, posting a picture of her season stats.
"Ta’Niya Latson is firmly in the NPOY race. There’s no question about it." she wrote in her caption.
Fans jumped into the comments to share their takes, with Goodnman receiving mixed responses.
"It's really her, (Notre Dame's) Hannah (Hidalgo), (UConn's Sarah) Strong, (UConn's) Paige, and (Vanderbilt's) khamil Pierre imo," one fan wrote.
"No she's not lol 😂," another commented.
"Better than Hannah for sure!" another fan wrote.
"When they play ND I need her to show out," one fan commented.
"I was afraid they were gonna give her freshman Caitlin Clark treatment. Leads the way in scoring but totally glazed over cause of her team's record. Ta'Niya is a bucket! Has some work to do but she is so good for FSU," another wrote.
"She should be but its already been given to Hannah or (USC's) Juju (Watkins)," another fan commented.
Ta'Niya Latson is having an impressive season for FSU
Florida State superstar Ta’Niya Latson delivered a clutch performance on Sunday, sealing an 86-84 road victory over No. 13 North Carolina with a buzzer-beating layup.
With just 3.5 seconds left, Latson caught the ball on the right wing, pump-faked two Tar Heels into the air, drove into the paint, and hung in the air to maneuver around another defender before laying it in as time expired. It was a signature moment for one of the nation’s top players.
Latson, who entered the game as the NCAA's leading scorer at 26.6 points per game, showcased her star power once again, finishing with a game-high 25 points and seven assists.
Florida State erased a late 76-71 deficit with a 9-1 run, highlighted by a Ta'Niya Latson floater and a clutch 3-pointer from Sydney Bowles, her sixth of the game, to take an 84-82 lead with 7.2 seconds left. After UNC tied it at 84-84 with 3.5 seconds remaining, Latson delivered the game-winning layup at the buzzer to cap off the thrilling victory.
Ta'Niya Latson and the Seminoles (16-4, 6-2 ACC), will look to build on the win as they face Boston College on Thursday.
