The Big East Conference is the latest to officially ink a new media rights deal. The conference announced that they have agreed to a six-year deal that encompasses multiple networks.

While the monetary value of this deal has not been made public as of this writing, there is a sense that they will get an increase from their previous deal.

This deal is added onto the back of the current media rights deal, meaning this new contract will be going through to the 2030-31 academic year. Let's take a deeper dive into the Big East media deal extension and everything known about it.

Big East media rights broadcasting details

The Big East media rights deal has multiple broadcast partners to give them one of the most spread-out media viewings of any conference. They will still be with Fox Sports (FOX, FS1, FS2) as well as now being on NBC Sports (Peacock, NBC) and TNT Sports (TBS, TNT, truTV, Max).

Fox Sports will feature at least 80 Big East basketball games, Peacock will host 25 regular season games and five early round/quarterfinal conference tournament games. TNT Sports will air more than 65 games in the regular season.

This means there will be multiple streaming services associated with the Big East on top of the Fox Sports App. Creighton University President and Big East Board of Directors chair Rev. Daniel S. Hendrickson discussed the importance of this deal falling in place.

"Our new agreement that provides coverage by FOX Sports, NBC Sports and TNT Sports will allow the BIG EAST to maintain our already high level of national broadcast and cable exposure while adding first-time streaming coverage for men's basketball games and expanded distribution of the game on the women's basketball side." h/t Big East

What does the Big East media deal mean going forward?

The Big East media rights deal being completed today holds some portents for the future. One of the notable parts is that multiple competing networks are willing to partner up and get involved in sports content, including TNT Sports.

Another indication is that the Big East can compete for more programs in conference realignment as they have a media deal for the future in place. The solidified future could sway programs to want to join the conference, if the Big East chooses to expand beyond its 11 members.
