Dan Hurley's UConn Huskies survive a scare against Butler in overtime
The No. 19 UConn Huskies managed to escape another back-to-back upset on Tuesday night with a narrow 80-78 overtime victory over the Butler Bulldogs.
Dan Hurley's men were coming off a tough loss to Creighton on Saturday and found themselves in a tight contest against Butler, a team they had already beaten earlier in the conference season. They beat the Bulldogs 78-74 last month at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
But in the rematch at XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut, the Huskies had to dig deep to avoid another untimely defeat.
UConn comfortably won the first half with an eight-point lead, 39-31 going into the locker room. However, the Bulldogs stormed back in the second half and managed to tie the game at 68-68 at the end of regulation to force overtime.
In the extra period, it was a close affair, with Butler even taking an early lead. Dan Hurley's team went on a 5-0 run with a minute to play. They then added two more points and held onto the lead to secure the victory.
