NBA great Shaquille O'Neal's son Shaqir O'Neal has seen a recent rise in attention as he puts on impressive displays for Florida A&M University. The 6-foot-8 redshirt junior joined the Rattlers this summer.

In his debut season with FAMU, Shaqir has appeared in every game, averaging 19.8 minutes per game and posting 9.6 points and 3.8 rebounds per contest.

His most impressive outing came against Trinity Baptist on Nov. 22, when he erupted for a career-high 26 points on 9-of-16 shooting, including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc, to go along with 9 rebounds and four blocks.

On Monday, "High Level" posted a highlight clip of his games on Instagram with the caption:

"Shaq’s legacy lives on. Big things ahead for the young king."

Shaq's Son Shaqir O'Neal shares his love for FAMU experience

Shaqir O'Neal spent two seasons at Texas Southern University where he barely played starting only two games, but he is now thriving in his first season with the Florida A&M Rattlers.

As a transfer student, Shaqir appreciates the chance he’s getting at FAMU and the support he is receiving.

"I want to build a name for myself in Tallahassee. I love this place," he said on Wednesday (via Tallahassee Democrat). "I’m not going to let anybody down. I want to make FAMU proud."
"I always knew about FAMU. I love the school. I don’t regret my decision at all. The fan base here is amazing. I love my teammates. The coaches hold me accountable and gave me a chance, which many places didn’t. That’s all I could ask for."

Shaqir O'Neal entered the transfer portal after the 2023-24 season but had little interest from other schools until the Rattlers coach Patrick Crarey II connected with Shaq about Shaqir joining the team. He averaged 1.5 points and 1.3 rebounds in 8.2 minutes per game at Texas Southern in two years —41 games.
