Caitlin Clark played for Team WNBA in the All-Star game on Saturday and finished with four points and 10 assists. With this, she set the WNBA All-Star Game rookie record for assists. Sue Bird holds the record for any player (11). Team WNBA won 117-109 against Team USA.
Clark's former Iowa coach, Jan Jensen, congratulated the guard on Instagram with a message:
"She got another record! Congrats, Caitlin! So awesome!"
Caitlin Clark is enjoying a record-breaking season as she recently became the first-ever WNBA rookie to notch a triple-double. She is averaging 17.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 8.2 assists and 1.5 steals in 26 games. She has made 40.5% of her shots from the floor, including 32.7% from the three-point range.
Not just on court, but Caitlin Clark is also breaking records off it as well. Sports Media Watch shared that out of the 15 most-watched games of this season, Clark and the Indiana Fever feature in 13.
Recent reports also suggest that the WNBA could sign a new two-billion-dollar media deal in partnership with Disney, NBC and Amazon for the next 11 years. This will see the league earn $200 million per year, a significant increase from the previous $50 million per year deal.
Jan Jensen shares Caitlin Clark's mindset for winning games
Jan Jensen played a crucial role in recruiting Caitlin Clark to the Iowa Hawkeyes and has seen the guard bloom through various stages in her playing career. In the four years that she stayed at Iowa, Jensen worked closely with Clark, helping her become the player she is today.
In an interview with Sirius XM NBA Radio, the Iowa coach pointed out one special quality she has noticed in the Fever guard.
“That kid is good,” Jensen said. “She can pass it and she makes you better. If you will meet her and you will not judge it and you'll kinda let it make sense to you, why her patience might come out or why she's acting a certain way, you start to figure out (that) it has nothing to do with her staff, nothing to do with her greatness. It has everything to do that she just wants to freaking win,” she added.
“And she believes that to win it has to be her way and it has to be this pass then and this shot now,” Iowa coach said. “Does that not sound like Kobe or Michael? I mean, the great ones are like that.”
Caitlin Clark's winning mentality has helped the Indiana Fever go from a bottom-ranked team last year to being in contention for the play-off this season.
