Iowa star Jada Gyamfi played with Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin for two years and has formed a close friendship. On Monday, Gyamfi welcomed Martin on her podcast, "Fresh Tawk with Jada Gyamfi," where they discussed their experience as basketball players.
On the show, the 6-foot-1 forward shared an interesting anecdote during her time with Clark and Martin, revealing that the two assumed distinct parental roles within the team to guide and support younger teammates.
"I check in with you so I like to hear all the stories and all the things that are different," Gyamfi said. "But besides being like the 'new kid on the block' and the 'baby' which is so crazy to think of you that way because you were like mother, no father the whole time I was here.
"Scratch mother, father — the father figure. Caitlin Clark was mother you were father. We all know I was baby girl." [Time Stamp - 19:55]
When Jada Gyamfi joined the Hawkeyes ahead of the 2022–23 season, Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin were already established stars and leaders of the squad.
Martin was the team's captain and Clark averaged 27.8 points, 8.6 assists and 7.1 points per game to lead the Hawkeyes to the NCAA championship game, where they lost to LSU.
Caitlin Clark looks forward to rest after WNBA All-Star game
WNBA rookie Caitlin Clark has been giving her best on the court since the start of the season. Despite her impressive college career and WNBA debut, Clark was not selected for the U.S. women's Olympic basketball team.
Following the WNBA All-Star game, Clark finally got some much-needed rest. For the first time since March 2023, she was getting a long break, as the league season would be put on hold for 24 days due to the Paris Olympics.
"I'm on vacation,” Clark said at the All-Star postgame press conference. "This is the last time for a month, so get your questions in now. I honestly can’t wait to not touch a basketball for a while. There has to be a time where that has to stop and you have to take care of yourself and do things for yourself."
At the midpoint of the WNBA season, Clark averages 17.1 points, 8.2 assists and 5.8 rebounds per game. As a rookie, she recorded the most assists (10) in a WNBA All-Star game.
