JuJu Watkins receives special honor from USC as she reaches 1,000 career points
Prior to USC's game against Michigan on Sunday, sophomore star JuJu Watkins was honored by the school for reaching 1,000 career points on Nov. 15. She hit the milestone in just 38 games, making her the fastest Trojan to reach the mark and the fourth fastest in the NCAA.
The Los Angeles native was given a special basketball by USC to commemorate the achievement. Coach Lindsay Gottlieb presented Watkins with the ball at center court as the Galen Center crowd gave her a standing ovation.
In the win against Santa Clara on Nov. 15, Watkins scored 22 points to surpass 1,000 career points. It took the former Iowa star Caitlin Clark, who holds the NCAA Division I women's basketball career scoring record, 40 games to reach the milestone. So in a sense, Watkins is chasing Clark's records.
JuJu Watkins added 31 points in No. 4 USC's 78-58 victory over Michigan, continuing her ascent as one of the elite scorers. With that performance, she surpassed 300 points in the season and moved to within two points of 1,250 career points.
