The Golden Bears' Devin Askew entered the transfer portal last month after two seasons at California and finally signed the dotted line on Saturday.
Per On3, Askew will be joining Long Beach State for his fifth year of college eligibility.
In his senior year at California, Devin Askew averaged 6.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists in only six games played. A foot injury ended his senior year. The guard was also not able to give his best last season as a sports hernia pushed him to the sidelines after 13 games. He averaged 15.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists.
Devin Askew player profile
Devin Askew joined the Kentucky Wildcats for his freshman season as a four-star recruit in 2020. He averaged 6.5 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists playing 29.0 minutes in 25 games. Askew then transferred to Texas, where he played 34 games and averaged 2.1 points, 0.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists.
In his career, Devin Askew shot at 36.5% from the floor and 28.1% from the three-point range.
Along with Askew, the Golden Bears lost three starters to the transfer portal this season. He could have taken a bigger role next season had he stayed but chose not to.
California signs former NBA Champion's son for next season
On Saturday, incoming sophomore Andrej Stojakovic signed with the California Golden Bears, choosing over programs like Kentucky, North Carolina and Michigan. Stojakovic averaged 7.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.9 assists while shooting 40.9% and 32.7% from beyond the arc in his first season with Stanford.
The guard is the son of former NBA Champion Peja Stojaković who played 13 seasons in the league with the Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers, New Orleans Hornets, Toronto Raptors and Dallas Mavericks.
"It was just the overall transparency from Coach Madsen and his staff," Stojakovic told ESPN. "We had many conversations about a development plan, what me at Cal could look like. Just overall, the consistency with them recruiting me, spending time with myself and my family."
The Golden Bears finished their 2022-23 season 2-18 in Pac-12. They hired former NBA coach Mark Madsen who turned their fortunes in just one season as they finished 9-11 this season.
The even bigger success story coming out of California is starter guard Jaylon Tyson who went from averaging 10.7 points in sophomore season at Texas to 19.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists in just one season with the Golden Bears. Tyson has declared for the draft and is a projected late first-round pick.
