Hanna Cavinder, one-half of the Cavinder Twins, announced Wednesday that she will return to Miami for the 2024-25 college basketball season.
The 23-year-old cager, who played for a year with Miami after three seasons with Fresno State, took to social media to reveal her return to the sport after a year of being away from basketball.
"Over the past few months, I have been itching to get back to the game that I thought I lost the love and passion for. Nothing quite fills the void that this sport brings me. With that all being said, I have decided to return for one more season. Let's run it back Miami," Hanna posted on her Instagram account.
The announcement drew mixed reactions from social media, with a fan expressing regret about the sisters' defunct podcast "Twin Talk with Haley and Hanna Cavinder." The podcast had its final episode five months ago.
"Can’t believe their podcast didn’t work out," the fan wrote on X.
Another fan was imagining the possible impact of the partnership between Hanna Cavinder and former Louisville and LSU guard Hailey Van Lith, who decided to transfer after the Lady Tigers lost to Caitlin Clark-led Iowa in the Elite Eight.
"Hailey Van Lith and her would make Miami watchable," the fan posted.
Some fans were positive about seeing Hanna come back to the sport.
"This is great news for America. Hoping we play them at conte next season 🙏🏼," one user wrote.
"Welcome back Hanna! Top athlete creator right here," the other posted.
Fans thought the twins might have realized something after leaving college basketball for a year.
"Just a reminder for everyone neither of these 2 girls are any good. They’re just tik tokers gaining followers," another user pointed out.
"Life after basketball must have been harder than they thought😂," a fan commented further.
Hanna Cavinder comes back to Miami
Hanna Cavinder is set to return to the Hurricanes after a one-year hiatus from the sport.
Hanna, who averaged 3.8 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 34 games for Miami in 2022-23, will use her final season of eligibility with Miami to play for the 2024-25 season under coach Tricia Cullop.
It's not just Hanna who is set to return to college basketball. Her sister Haley will also make a comeback next season, as she transferred to TCU.
A year ago, the Cavinder sisters wrote on social media that they decided to forgo their fifth year of eligibility and hail Miami as their home.
"Hanna and I have decided to not take our fifth year and start a new chapter in our lives. The U will always be home and we are forever proud to be Hurricanes," Haley wrote on social media.
Before making that announcement, the sisters were the top names in college athletics and signed with major brands such as Victoria's Secret PINK and Champs Sports.
The Cavinders, however, did not escape controversy, as they were found to have eaten dinner with Miami booster John Ruiz during the recruitment process. As part of the school's punishment, the NCAA slapped Miami coach Katie Meier with a three-game ban in the 2022-23 season, as Haley and Hanna were not sanctioned for their acts.
