After a disappointing end to the 2023-24 season, Kenny Brooks took over as the Kentucky Wildcats coach following the firing of Kyra Elzy. The team finished 4-12 (12-20 overall).

The appointment of the new coach has revived hope for the Wildcats in the upcoming season. Kentucky Sports Radio's Drew Franklin shared his thoughts on the new roster and the coach in an interview with On3 on Monday.

"So far, Kenny Brooks seems to be a home run hire by Mitch Barnhart, and the way Brooks revamped the roster through the transfer portal has Kentucky women’s basketball in a much better place than in years past," Franklin said.
"They still have to play the games, but the quick turnaround in expectations and fan support is remarkable. I can’t wait to see how they look on the court this winter."

Franklin also added that he's considering buying season tickets to see the Wildcats in action. BBN Tonight's Maggie Davis also shared her excitement for Kentucky's new season and praised Brooks.

"Kenny Brooks means business," she said. "From the moment he stepped foot in the Bluegrass, Kentucky’s new coach immediately went to work rebuilding his staff, constructing a new roster, and getting acclimated in a new (and still-changing!) SEC and national landscape."

Kenny Brooks shares his goals for his first season in Kentucky

Kenny Brooks spent eight seasons at Virginia Tech and led the Hokies to their first ACC tournament championship in 2023. He also coached the team to their first Final Four appearance in 2024.

Brooks built the Hokies program slowly over time and is looking to employ similar tactics with the Kentucky Wildcats. In 22 seasons as a head coach in college basketball, he has accumulated a 517-204 career record. With the excitement around his era, fans have renewed hope for the Wildcats.

“Every day, just learning and trusting each other, and us trusting them,” Brooks said. “And then all of a sudden, before you know it, you’re in a five-, six-game winning streak, and, you’re just starting to play together and playing your best basketball at the right time.
"No one wants to peak in December. You want to be peaking at the right time. And this year will be the same. You know, we won’t look as good in November as we will in January, and so that’s just our goal, to continue to get better every day.”
