Sister Jean, the legendary 105-year-old team chaplain of the Loyola Chicago Ramblers, was at the center of a heartbreaking moment on Tuesday night. As the Ramblers took the court against the Eastern Michigan Eagles, fans were left outraged and saddened by an incident.

After winning the game 76-54, the Loyola players walked by Sister Jean without acknowledging her or stopping to greet the beloved figure.

Sitting in her wheelchair patiently waiting in front of the tunnel, she raised her hand for a fist bump, hoping for the players to interact with her, but they walked past her.

The lack of attention and disregard for Jean sparked an intense reaction on X/Twitter among fans.

Here are some of the tweets:

"Sister Jean didn’t carry Loyola Chicago all the way to a Final Four just to be treated like this," one user wrote.
"Cancel the season," another fan tweeted.
"Bro this sh** just made me so mad….. like you don’t see her sitting right there!!!!" an angry fan said.
"This needs to be fixed immediately," another one added.

"This causes me pain to watch," one fan said.
"What is up with these kids? If we pulled a stunt like that our coach would light us up at practice the next day," another user chimed in.
"@CoachDrewLU not cool that the players treat icon Sister like this. Wow," one more added.

Who is Sister Jean Dolores Schmidt?

Born in 1919, Sister Jean Dolores Schmidt is a Catholic religious sister who has been serving as the team chaplain for the Loyola Chicago Ramblers since 1994.

She gained national prominence during the Ramblers’ unexpected run to the Final Four of the 2018 NCAA Tournament — the program's second Final Four appearance in history — when she became a celebrity figure for the team.

A graduate from Mount St. Mary's leads the team in prayer before games and offers spiritual guidance to players and coaches. In September, she spoke with the university about her pre-game routine.

"Before the game starts, we gather, and I say a prayer beginning with 'Good and gracious God.' Then I tell them — because I scout the opposing teams — which players they need to be careful of," she said. "I bless them before they go out on the court for the final warm-up."

After finishing high school, Jean moved to Iowa and joined the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. There, she became a nun and was given the name Sister Jean Dolores.
