Earlier on Saturday, the Chicago Bulls declared January 4th to be "Derrick Rose Night," celebrating the youngest MVP in NBA history. The festivities spanned the entire team's game against the New York Knicks, both teams for which Rose has played. The home team emerged victorious with a 139-126 win.

The night of commemoration saw many key figures connected to Rose in attendance, including legendary college basketball coach John Calipari. Calipari, who coached Rose during his one-and-done stint with the Memphis Tigers, had nothing but praise for his former collegiate player during an in-game interview.

"The best teammate ever. Cared more about everybody else than himself. Would never do a piece without other people being in it. It's about everybody else," Calipari said (Timestamp: 0:28).

Calipari served as the Tigers' head coach from 2000 to 2009, mentoring Rose in the 2007-08 season before taking on the helm of the Kentucky Wildcats program. During their time together, they went all the way to the NCAA national championship game but ultimately lost to the Kansas Jayhawks.

After his stint with the Tigers, Calipari took over the Kentucky Wildcats program, leading them to an NCAA national title in 2012. He currently heads the Arkansas Razorbacks coaching staff.

Rose, despite a career marred by injuries, has become a beloved figure in the NBA. His 16-year tenure is celebrated for his athletic playstyle and unwavering commitment to the game.

In a fitting tribute, Rose's No. 1 jersey is set to be retired to the United Center rafters next NBA season.

John Calipari had an eventful Saturday filled with different emotions

Before heading to the United Center for Derrick Rose Night, John Calipari was at Thompson-Boling Arena in Tennessee for the Arkansas Razorbacks' first SEC matchup against the Tennessee Volunteers. Unfortunately for Calipari and his team, they were outmatched, 76-52.

During an in-game interview, the 65-year-old coach was asked about his thoughts on his long Jan. 4th. He shared:

"We played at one (p.m.), and got absolutely smashed. Came and watched the high school game (of PJ Rose). Now, I'm here for Derrick and couldn't miss this. What he's done for me and my family, I got to see mom, his brothers, it was fun."

Calipari and the rest of the Razorbacks now look ahead to their Wednesday conference matchup against the Ole Miss Rebels on their home floor.
