LSU Tigers coach Kim Mulkey is known for her bold outfits, featuring bright colors, sequins, feathers, and intricate designs. While the coach has shown her fashionista side during her time at Baylor, the over-the-top clothing style began when she joined LSU in 2021.
During her interview with 104.5 ESPN’s Watch Live Channel on Tuesday, the topic of conversation was 'The Kim Mulkey look-alike contest' during the Tigers' game against Auburn. Addressing the outfits, Mulkey shared that it’s not just about making a statement for herself but rather about engaging audiences who might not typically follow women’s basketball.
"I’ve never worn anything like that in my life," Mulkey said. "And I got talked into it and I kept saying, no, no, no, no, no. And then they hit me up at a weak moment."
Despite her reservations, Mulkey was eventually persuaded by her staff, who pointed out the impact her outfits could have on bringing new fans to the game.
"They said, 'Coach, you said your goal was to sell tickets and to take one for the team. And I’m telling you, people who don’t care about sports or even understand women’s basketball, the fashionistas, they will come just to see what you’re wearing.'"

Her daring style hit new heights during Sunday's game against the Tigers. Mulkey wore an outfit inspired by the sport itself, as it was a sweater featuring a basketball and hoop motif with netting around and red pants.

With the 73-63 victory over Auburn, the Tigers extended their undefeated streak to 17 games. While discussing her team's performance and the special contest, Mulkey revealed details about her 'basketball outfit,' saying:
“I don’t shop, that was dropped off at the house, maybe Friday? And I wasn’t even there. They sell this stuff, Queen of Sparkles, I’ve told y’all. I need to get an NIL deal with them.”
During March Madness 2023, the coach drew attention with a floral blazer accented with bright pink ostrich feathers, paired with white pants and vibrant pink heels.
Kim Mulkey’s attention now turns to LSU’s next big matchup as the Tigers are set to face the No. 16 Tennessee Lady Vols on Thursday, Jan. 9, at 6:30 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network+ and can also be streamed via the ESPN app.
