After her transfer from Colorado, Shelomi Sanders is now preparing for her second year of college at Alabama A&M. On Thursday, Coach Prime's daughter shared pictures from the gym, training hard for the games in the fall. She added her tagline in the caption:
"The sun will rise 🤝🏽"
Shelomi Sanders played two games with Jackson State before she redshirted to Colorado as her dad became the coach of the Buffaloes football team. She played just five games as a red-shirt freshman averaging 0.6 points, 0.6 rebounds and 0.2 steals in 1.8 minutes of game time. Sanders shot 16.7% from the floor, including 25.0% from the 3-point range.
With this move to Alabama, Sanders was criticized by her father, who called it "stupid," since she entered the transfer portal without even an offer from a team. However, Shelomi Sanders did have the support of her mother, Pilar. The guard also has the Alabama A&M coach rooting for her.
In an interview for Mississippi Clarion Ledge, coach Dawn Thornton said:
“Shelomi is just what we need on 'The Hill.' Not only does she want to make a name for herself, but we also have the platform and the resources for her to do it. She is well-known for her game behind the arc, and I love big guards that can score the ball.
"She has great athleticism and will make it very hard for teams to zone us. Shelomi's commitment and determination will send her potential through the roof.”
Deion Sanders shares how he raised his kids to be athletes
Being the offspring of an NFL player like Deion Sanders means the children have access to the best resources. However, in order to keep them passionate and focused on the sport, Coach Prime employed an unorthodox approach: taking them to "the hood."
During an appearance on the "All That Smoke" podcast in May, Sanders said:
“As far as my kids, they grew up with, but I took them over to the hood man. And put them in baseball, football, basketball and I ran my own programs because I wanted them to have this, but ain't want to raise no cat. I want to raise a dog, because, you know the cat got all the nice litter boxes and everything is in the house.”
Deion Sanders' two oldest children do not play sports anymore, while his sons Shilo and Shedeur play football for him in Colorado. His youngest, Shelomi Sanders is the only basketball player in the family now.
