Dan Hurley has been the king among college basketball coaching at least for the last two seasons. Under his guidance, UConn has won the last two NCAA titles, and this season he will be going after a three-peat.
The three-peat looks possible as he has built a roster that looks ready for another national championship. This was confirmed by CBS Sports college hoops insider Jon Rothstein, who recently visited a Huskies' practice session.
"This has a chance to be Dan Hurley's best shooting team at UConn. Tailor made for the Huskies' inverted offensive concepts. Major floor spacers in Liam McNeeley, Alex Karaban, and Aisan Mahaney," Rothstein tweeted.
Hurley has secured the signatures of major recruits for the upcoming season. Liam McNeeley, a five-star recruit from Montverde Academy, averaged 12.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game last season. The 2024 McDonald's All-American will be a key player for UConn next season.
Aidan Mahaney, a former Saint Mary's point guard, transferred to UConn after the 2023-24 season. Last season, he averaged 13.9 ppg, 2.6 rpg and 2.6 apg while shooting 38.6%.
On the other hand, Alex Karaben will be leading the frontcourt for Hurley next season. He was one of the key players for UConn in the past two seasons. He started every game last season while averaging 13.3 points, 5.1 rpg and 1.5 apg. He also had an incredible shooting percentage of 49.5%.
Dan Hurley talked about the key factor while recruiting
Dan Hurley has recruited one of the best players in the past, leading the Huskies to several accolades. On April 6, he talked about his approach to recruiting players for UConn via CBS Mornings.
"Have they played on seven different travel teams?" Hurley said. "Have they transferred to four/five different high schools?
"When you talk to the parents in the recruiting process, were they constantly complaining about the coaches after a bad game or are they sending you a text and you having a conversation where their son has got to do more, he's got to play harder, he's got to work on his skills."
Hurley also stressed that even a single player can ruin an entire program and he makes sure that it doesn't happen with him by looking for the factors that he talked about.
