Carmelo Anthony is one of basketball's greatest players, but now his son, Kiyan Anthony, is catching the media's attention for his own basketball abilities. Kiyan is in high school and has yet to decide on which college he will attend. According to 247Sports, the six schools that he has shortlisted are:
- Auburn Tigers
- Florida State Seminoles
- Ohio State Buckeyes
- Rutgers Scarlet Knights
- Syracuse Orange
- USC Trojans
College basketball analyst Adam Finkelstein has an idea about which of these programs Kiyan Anthony might pick:
"The favorite has to be Syracuse, right? We're talking about a dude whose dad is a legend, won the championship there, and his name is on the building that they practice in. ... I think him ending up anywhere other than Syracuse school will be one of the bigger surprises we've ever seen." [H/T 247Sports]
Carmelo Anthony spent one season with the Orange in the 2002-2003 season, but his impact will forever be felt in upstate New York. His strong performances during the NCAA tournament, especially during the Final Four, were key in helping Syracuse win its first national championship.
If Kiyan Anthony were to join Syracuse, he would be building on the strong legacy his father set there. To add, Kiyan praised the program, when speaking to ZagBlogs:
“The coaches, I feel like they’re recruiting me for myself, and not just because of my father. That’s what I like. I just feel like they’re rebuilding, and they’re looking to get a winning team. I feel like I can help them do that if I was to go there.”
What does Kiyan Anthony think of the other schools?
It is not entirely certain that Kiyan will join Syracuse. There are other schools that the guard has considered and previously spoken about. For example, he described Ohio State coach Jake Diebler as someone who:
“Has a blueprint and a plan of what guys he wants to come. He’s very strict on who he recruits." [H/T USA Today]
Additionally, USC Trojans coach Eric Musselman has reportedly been texting him after games with advice. However, as per Finkelstein, it seems that the Rutgers Scarlet Knights is the one team that Kiyan might not join. The analyst believes that this is due to the guard's sponsorship deal:
"Can't see Anthony going to Rutgers, especially with the shoes ties with Rutgers being an Adidas program and Anthony being a Jordan athlete." [H/T 247Sports]
Whichever school Kiyan Anthony picks, they will get a highly skilled player who can be used to improve their team's performance. In turn, the team can help develop him into an NBA-caliber player.
