AJ Dybantsa is rumored to be very close to joining BYU in 2025. He is a top recruit of the class of 2025 and has recently transferred to Utah Prep for his final year of high school basketball.

Insiders recently discussed this rumor in their conversation about the 2024 Peach Jam, via CBS Sports. Dybantsa was generally praised as one person said:

"You know what's insane is, he's like 6'8''-6'9'' and he's like a wing, he's a small forward but he plays like a shooting guard. If you really had to truly define him, he's more shooting guard than he's more small forward. [Time Stamp-42:00]
"He is always talking on the court, his hands are super active, he is so long, he never seems to tire. His mid-range game is kind of fallen out of vogan. He can shoot from deep. His propensity to know how to shoot from the mid-range [is good]."

Dybantsa, who has not even entered college basketball yet, was compared with Duke commit Cooper Flagg. The latter is the projected No. 1 overall in the 2025 NBA Draft.

"The Cooper Flagg hype is deserved. I can't wait to see what he does in Duke. I think his inclusion in the sport is such a positive for college basketball and he's got a great shot at being the number one pick if it all comes together. I think Dybantsa is going to be the better college player [though]." [Time Stamp- 43:00]

They discussed BYU as a potential spot for Dybantsa. If we were to look at BYU earlier, it was difficult to believe the rumor. However, with the program's current situation, which includes hiring a new head coach, it's quite possible.

"Who were the team to beat, if I were asking you right now for AJ Dybantsa? And immediately, you know what the guy said? BYU," the college insider said about his interaction. [Timestamp- 48:30]

BYU might have a chance with him but there is nothing certain about the deal until it happens. Nothing is permanent in college basketball these days. However, it can be said that even if it doesn't happen, BYU is heading in the right direction.

AJ Dybantsa led the Soldiers to a win over UPlay

AJ Dybantsa, along with the top prospect in the class of 2026, Tyran Stokes, led Soldiers to a 73-65 victory over the UPlay at the Peach Jam 2024. Many NBA and college basketball scouts had eyes on Dybantsa during the match.

He scored 23 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists in the victory. Tyran Stokes, who is transferring to Notre Dame, scored 17 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists. One of the best duos in high school, the two were also praised by Bobby Blackwell, a Westside state champion.

"It's kind of like inspiring to watch them play. It kind of makes you want to work on your game and get better," said Bobby.

AJ Dybantsa and Tyran Stokes are the future of college basketball. As of now, they are living up to their potential. Things are going to get tougher when they take the next step up. But they seem to be capable of dealing with the challenge.
