Rutgers freshman sensation Ace Bailey showcased an amazing performance on Thursday against the Indiana Hoosiers. He dropped a career-high 39 points performance in the Big Ten clash. However, his efforts weren't enough to secure a win for Scarlett Knights, who fell 84–74 to the Hoosiers.
Fans took to Instagram to discuss his remarkable efforts. However, some couldn't resist talking about a less successful outing earlier this season, where Rutgers lost a nail-biting matchup to Jack Scott's Princeton, 83–82.
"Couldn't do this against Jack Scott btw," a fan wrote.
"OMG, ace you're so tuff," another fan wrote.
"He's definitely NBA ready without being a nepotism kid," a fan wrote.
Some also compared him with Cooper Flagg while others talked about his elite shooting skills.
"Ace and Harper is simply better than Flag," a fan wrote.
"Elite shot maker," a fan wrote.
"He's not even 7ft nor does he look like it. He is hoopin tho," another fan wrote.
Bailey was incredible against Hoopers, shooting 16-of-29 from the field. He had eight rebounds, four blocks, and snatched one steal. Moreover, he shot 4-of-8 from beyond the arc.
Bailey's performance was the only good thing for Rutgers as the rest of the team struggled on the court. They definitely missed the presence of their star guard Dylan Harper who averages 22.8 points per game. His absence resulted in Bailey carrying the offensive load.
In the first half, Bailey scored 19 out of Rutger's 34 points. However, he lacked the support from his teammates resulting in Indiana leading Rutgers with a score of 42–34 at halftime.
Dylan Harper talks about Ace Bailey in the Rutgers' historic victory
Another Rutgers sensation, Dylan Harper, who missed the game against Indiana, became the first Scarlet Knight in 42 years to record a triple-double. In the postmatch conference, he credited his teammate, Ace Bailey, for his game-high 24-point performance against Columbia.
"Obviously, it's a great accomplishment, but I mean, I couldn't have done any of that without my teammates," Harper said. (3:33) " I mean, guys like Jamichael Davis, Ace Bailey, the rest of the team just really put me in great positions. they got open for me to find them and for them to score."
The Rutgers Scarlett Knights are now 16th in the Big Ten, whereas the Indiana Hoosiers are 5th. Bailey's extraordinary performance offers hope for Rutgers' future. However, fans are concerned about close losses like the one against Princeton.
