After Jabari Smith Jr.'s dunk on Joel Embiid, UNC's Seth Trimble continued the 2024 offseason trend of dunking on NBA stars. The Tar Heels guard was part of the open run alongside multiple NBA stars, top high school juniors and players from the 2026 talent pool. Trimble caught peoples' attention when threw down a transition slam on Miami Heat’s Jaime Jaquez Jr.
Fans raved about the slam, and what made it even more noteworthy was former dunk contest champion Zach LaVine’s reaction.
As the clip went viral, plenty of college hoops fans reacted to LaVine’s reaction:
"Seth Trimble ladies and gentlemen!! We coming!!," a fan quipped.
'Damn he punched that sh*t lol. Trimble should have a pretty good year for UNC," another fan wrote.
"Always know your personnel or they’ll surprise you 🐰🐰😂😂," another college hoops follower commented.
Moreover, the highlight clip forced Divison I fans to reflect on the potential of the North Carolina Tar Heels in the upcoming season:
"Duke fans like me hoping Hubert doesn’t put too much stock into this. Guys athletic as hell, just needs minutes," a Duke Blue Devils fan highlighted Trimble's potential.
"Seth Trimble break out year loading," another fan quipped.
"So, Seth Trimble dunked on Jaime Jaquez in an open run… Reminder that this is guy is coming off UNC’s bench next season," another follower touched on UNC's potential as a unit.
Seth Trimble was eyeing to cut ties with UNC this offseason
Seth Trimble will enter his third season with UNC this season, but, that was uncertain earlier this offseason when the guard declared for the transfer portal. However, in less than three weeks, the streaky 3-point shooter withdrew his portal candidacy, returning to Hubert Davis’ crew in Chapel Hill.
Trimble only averaged 9.7 minutes of action in his freshman season. But he became a reliable sixth-man last year due to his 41.9% 3-point shooting and ability to guard opposing guards on the perimeter.
Now, with more court time next season, Trimble will help strengthen Tar Heels’ depth, defense and versatility in the 2024-25 season. While he has improved in shot-making efficiency, steals and crashing the boards, Trimble will have to continue his development while playing heavy minutes next year.
